Basant Malawat is the Managing Director of MSMPL and a Senior Marine Engineer. He started his career with Indian Coast Guard as Assistant Commandant (Technical) in 1986 till 1993. Since 1994 he was associated with a renowned Foreign Shipping Company and has crossed one milestone after the other in his sailing career. He has a vast experience of working on all the stages in the life-cycle of a ship and this gives him a unique advantage matched by few. He left active sea service in 2007 and joined Liebherr as India Head – After Sales Services for Earthmoving and Mining Equipments till 2009. In 2009 he joined V. Ships as Crew Manager and managed various Owners fleet of Tankers, Bulk Carrier, RORO Vessels etc. In 2013 he got an opportunity to join Maersk Tankers as Head – Maersk Tankers Crewing Operations and handled more than 500 seafarers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; later he was elevated to Head – Recruitment and Cadet Administration – Maersk Group and was responsible for recruitment of Cadets and Officers as well as Ratings for Maersk Line (Container Fleet) and Maersk Tankers Fleet. He was handling more than 3000 Officers including Ratings and more than 1000 Cadets. Now he is handling the helm of MSMPL as Managing Director.
He is B.E. Mechanical from MBM Engineering College, 1984 Batch, University of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He did Marine Engineering Specialization Course at INS Shivaji, Lonavla
He is a Member of Institute of Marine Engineers, India. He did Internal QMS Auditor Course, Lloyd’s Register, LRQA & Leadership Transition Programme Leading Others, MAERSK.
MSMPL started with a vision to provide the skilled, experienced and well qualified Crew with valid documents to our Esteemed Vessel Operators in order to meet all operational requirements.
A work experience of 35 years in the Marine Industry, having joined sea in Jun 1982..
Of this 24 years were out at sea mostly on large oil tankers.
Command experience of 9 years. Last 11years, have been working ashore .
A wide spectrum of experience ashore, ranging from heading the Global manning
operations of a well established management company to setting up a system catering
to a fleet of brand new Oil and Chemical tankers and handling the marine HR
functions of a fleet of ownership . This has given the perspective of marine manning
both from the point of view of an owner and a manager and an opportunity to glean
the best from both.
The experience ashore is subsequent to a sea career of 24 years. Of these 19 years
were on tankers , 9 years in command. Command experience has been on tankers
carrying Veg. Oils , CPP , Chemicals and Crude on vessels from 30,000 DWT to
Aframaxes on lightetrage to a VLCC.
The company is technically supported & guided by Mr. Ashok Mehersingh
Jethwani a senior Chief Engineer having work experience of more than 30 years
in the Marine Industry.
Having long work experience at sea on wide range of vessels comprising of
Passanger liner ship,DFDE (duel fuel diesel electric propulsion) LNG Vessel, Steam
LNG vessel, Product /Crude oil/Chemical Tankers/ Bulk Carriers/ Specialised fully
refrigerated LPG Gas tankers and Ethylene carrier, including very large gas
tanker(VLGC) ,experience on Floating gas storage and offloading
vessel(FGSO),Passenger liner vessel, Offshore vessels,high powered bollard pull
tugs deliveries and augmenting the wealth of invaluable experience, knowledge of
running, operations and maintenance of varied kind of shipboard machinery.
Presently working on Sea/Ashore with Maersk Tankers as a Chief
Engineer/Senior Security Advisor Superintendent and technically supporting
Malawat Ship Management.
